The best laid plans!

Oops! Well I stated at the end of my last blog that I planned to do a series of seascapes in oils, but as you can see from the pictures below I haven't followed that plan! It was put on ice for a short time whilst I experimented with creating a series of mixed media paintings.

The first of the paintings in the series is based around an oriental spiritual theme with the Buddha, Mandala, Japanese anemones with a hint of cherry blossom, but it also has a suggestion of high rise buildings and communications and that's why it's called 'Culture Clash'. The second one is a variation on the theme using different colours and textures with a slight difference in arrangement. The third painting is called East meets East and depicts symbols of a simpler life before the age of high rise buildings and world wide communications.

The painting on the right is not part of the series was commissioned especially as a gift. I've incorporated various elements into it that the person loves making it uniquely personal to them.. It's also painted in their favourite colours. The most thoughtful gifts always make the recipients cry with emotion and that's what this one did! I hope you enjoy this series. If you're interested in purchasing or commissioning a painting either as a gift for a loved one or for yourself, or in joining a workshop and learning how to create your own then please do get in touch.

My name is Heather Matthews and I am a self taught artist. This sounds a bit like I'm introducing myself at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and it's perfectly true that I am addicted to painting.                                     I challenge myself constantly across all different mediums and this means I remain excited about my art.  It's such a rush when you achieve something you never dreamt you could.                  That's also why I love to teach. It's this natural high that I pass on to my students.
