There is an old saying, 'Variety is the spice of life'. This has been my mantra when it comes to painting and you can see from a small selection of my work below that I like to mix it up and keep things interesting! There are so many types of paint, textures, colour schemes, subjects, moods and lighting. Why limit yourself when you can utilise all of these to flex your creative muscles?
Of course there's a financial consideration for focusing on one. Also while using one medium and working constantly on one subject you can practice and perfect more easily and in less time. It's clearly the practical way to go but I'm like a kid in a sweetshop, an art suppliers dream. You can learn and grow for a lifetime. It can be endlessly fascinating and absorbing, even a form of mindfulness. That's not to negate the fact that it can also be extremely frustrating and at times disheartening. If you constantly try new things the struggle is real and you can produce a variety of work but have a number of outcomes including disasters. Of course there is no right or wrong way to work. Many of the most admired artists use one medium or maybe two and they stick to one subject and master it. Having said all that, I do like to create series of paintings and each of the individual examples below are one of several in various series I've painted. I hope you will enjoy the slideshow below.
